30 years of dedication - Steven Edwards’ journey at Turicum Private Bank

When Steven Edwards joined Turicum in 1994, the Bank was a small team based at Europort. Jobs in Gibraltar were scarce at the time, following the closure of the Naval Dockyard and the Gibraltar Component Factory where Steven had worked as a craftsman. Starting as a part-time messenger and cleaner, he quickly became part of the foundation of Turicum’s day-to-day life.

Over the years, Steven grew into a vital member of the team that looks after Turicum’s properties, the Bank’s home Turicum House, and residential properties Capilano House, and Alma House, handling everything from polishing marble floors at dawn to varnishing offices by hand on weekends, looking after security and electrical health and safety. His attention to detail has kept our buildings looking their best for colleagues, clients, and shareholders.

He remembers those early years as a time of learning and adapting. “I enjoyed getting back to skilled work and being trusted to manage my own time,” Steven says. “I’d just get on with what needed to be done.” Maintaining older buildings comes with its challenges, and he has always tackled them with consistency and pride.

Steven takes satisfaction in the small moments that make a difference: the squeak of polished floors underfoot, the shine of varnished boardrooms, and the quiet appreciation of directors and colleagues. “When someone notices the effort, it makes you feel good,” he says.

He has also seen the Bank grow from a handful of people to now being supported by a dedicated maintenance and support team. Yet the Bank’s approach to relationships has never changed. “Treat people with respect and they do the same. That’s how it’s always been here.”

Steven notes how the Bank has evolved towards greater sustainability and efficiency, from adopting new health and safety practices to moving away from single-use plastics. “It just makes sense to do things better,” he adds.

Recently, the team marked Steven’s 30 years with a surprise celebration, a gesture he describes as “fabulous, but a bit embarrassing!” As he looks ahead, Steven remains committed to supporting Turicum with the same care and responsibility that have defined his journey so far.

At Turicum, relationships are at the core of what we do. Steven reminds us that this commitment extends beyond client service, it’s part of who we are every day. We thank him for 30 years of outstanding service, loyalty, and for helping make Turicum a place that feels like home.
